Alas, what tender dreams we dare evoke
to overshadow reality from our tortured mind.
We peer with content through colored glass
to blur the ugliness and at last we go blind.
Cowering in darkness, feeding ourselves chocolate covered lies
until they become our tainted truth.
Wishing in our adolescence for years to advance
until in our older season we mourn stolen youth.
Ever discontent, never realizing what once we had
has turned to vapor and slipped through our fingers.
How sweet one moment in time was, how we might nevermore find,
destroys our souls. Alas how it lingers.
